buying the right car speakers

Multiple component speaker systems are one of the best ways to enhance your car’s sound.

Most cars will benefit from multiple component sound systems. With subwoofers, tweeters and everything in between, you’ll be faced with a huge range of textures, tones and depth to your car audio installation. That being said, it can seem like a mammoth task to install all these elements into one great soundsystem. Below is a simple guide to installing a multi-component system, which will help you once you;ve made your car audio shop purchases.

Replace your woofer

Placing the woofer can be a little pernickety. First off, you have to find the perfect spot for installing your woofer. Screw a few holes in the desired space and cut a small circular area to fit the woofer. Make sure that the cars internal workings are not being modified whilst you do this.

Where to place your tweeter

Tweeters are often placed in the dashboard or the door of the car. These smaller speakers must be installed with specific tweeter mountings, which you will have to provide yourself. Most cars do not come with tweeter mountings. To create your mounting, cut a hole in the doors panel to fit the size of your tweeter.

Crossover placement

Install your crossovers closer to the speakers, upping the overall sound quality. Despite this need, crossovers are hard to place in that they should never get wet, and must not interfere with any other car functions, all whilst remaining close to the speakers.

Out with the old

If you are removing the factory version of the speaker system, you may need to use a utility knife to loosen it from its in built place in the door of your car. You will then have to redo the wiring when replacing the woofer and the tweeters.

Tweaking your speakers

Once installed, you may find that you will have to adjust a door or a wire or two. This is perfectly normal, all installed items will require the car to be adjusted to cater to their size and needs.

Surface mounting

Secure surface mounting gives you the opportunity to minimise your audio installation hassle. It will require to drill a few screws into the desired surface mount spaces, but will undoubtedly make your life a little easier when it comes to heft woofers and intricate tweeters.

Flush mounting

A flush mount is an alternative to surface mounting, and brings a sleek classic look to your car. Again, this will require you to drill a few holes in the door panel to ensure your tweeters will fit nicely.

Crossover installation

To install the crossover correctly, trace the door panels tweeter cup by drilling around it and trimming the area where you want to install it. Often, people will install their crossover in a plastic bag, taping the opening before placing it in its designated spot in the car door. This will protect the cross over wires from moisture.
